Most times there is a middle man, but what does that middle man charge?
Estate sales can charge anywhere from 35%-50% on all items that they sell, including the precious metals. Because we have been one, we know. In addition, pawn shops pay you very little based on current market values, I know because I worked for one for 18 months. In addition, auctions most times require a buyers premium. That could be from 10-30%. Of course that adds a cost to the buyer above and beyond what they pay for an item. In light of that, their bidding might be lower. With a 40 year run with auctions, we know because we have dealt with them.
We charge 15 to 20%, depending on volume.

Over the years in San Diego, Bob and Sissi handled 60 or more estate sales for me. Most of the sales resulted in more income than expected.
